Why not join St. Lawrence’s Church Tower Challenge in Aid of Organ Restoration Project, June 30th or July 1st?

Here’s a chance for an adventure for a good cause.

Looking for some adventure this Summer? Things to do in Cumbria in June and July now got more exciting and more charitable. If you want you can join St. Lawrence’s Church Tower Challenge in Aid of  the Church Organ Restoration Project on June 31st and July 1st.  Furthermore there’ll be an Open Gardens event and refreshments at Crosby Ravensworth Village Hall. You can enjoy these carvings of Queen Victoria and Prince Albert amongst others on this lovely old church. See if you can find the mouse!

What a lovely instrument it is! Its music is very fine. I remember pumping the bellows manually once when the automatic bellows failed, for my father who was then church organist to play. Phew, was that hard work! Thank goodness for the electric air pump.

Please find attached  details of the CR  C of E Primary School Exhibition to help to mark their 50th Anniversary in church November 16/17

I am sure Jill would appreciate it if you could advertise it far and wide.

It seems too good an opportunity to miss to thank you all for supporting our great auction of Gifts and Promises last Friday Oct 25th.

We received messages of good wishes from those outwith the parish who couldn’t come and then about 55 folk turned out to help us raise a staggering £2,000. It was a really good, convivial evening too thanks to hard work from Ruth Tuer on the Bar, Jill and Karen Winder on the door, Kath Hamilton and Jean Bailey in the kitchen, Derek Raine acting as a very effective Auctioneer aided by Treasurer David Graham, Sass Robertson and Alex Barbour showing the lots plus many others who had helped beforehand.

So after this summer of scaffold and top class craftsmen’s work, we are happy to be able to worship in, and use, a dry St Lawrence; we are beginning to regroup and get ready to move on into the next year when we tackle some form of effective, and not astronomically expensive heating, approval from the Diocese not withstanding.

Hope to see you over Nov 16/17 weekend.
