Looking for some adventure this Summer? Things to do in Cumbria in June and July now got more exciting and more charitable. If you want you can join St. Lawrence’s Church Tower Challenge in Aid of  the Church Organ Restoration Project on June 31st and July 1st.  Furthermore there’ll be an Open Gardens event and refreshments at Crosby Ravensworth Village Hall. You can enjoy these carvings of Queen Victoria and Prince Albert amongst others on this lovely old church. See if you can find the mouse!

What a lovely instrument it is! Its music is very fine. I remember pumping the bellows manually once when the automatic bellows failed, for my father who was then church organist to play. Phew, was that hard work! Thank goodness for the electric air pump.

Funds are being raised to restore the organ at St. Lawrence’s Church Crosby Ravensworth. You can be part of the Church’s historic restoration.

Maulds Meaburn Crosby Ravensworth Road Closed from 8th Feb for 12 weeks

Though a bit on the chilly side, our  carol service on Dec.16 was very atmospheric with a fantastic turn-out, lots of candle light, bells, good readings and fine singing.

I thought that the children performed very well and it was very festive and memorable.

Fun Fundraising: Abseiling Down The Tower

In a demonstration of courage and community spirit, bold parishioners (and one cuddly toy rabbit) abseiled down St. Lawrence’s Church tower to raise funds for our church coffers and the Lyvennet Community Trust today.

Cheered on by supportive cries of encouragement from the churchyard about 80ft below them, the intrepid abseilers put their faith in God, their instructors and stout ropes and … stepped backwards into the void!
